How it works

Nitrates in food

Select a product on the touch screen, insert the probe into the pulp and press “Test”. In a few seconds the device will show the digital nitrate value and compare it with the limit. For easier reading, the result is highlighted with the corresponding color: green, orange red.

How Greentest nitrate testers work and how to read the result

Greentest household devices work as conductivity meters: they analyze the overall salt content in a product and, taking into account pulp juiciness and density, approximate the relative nitrate level at the puncture point. Since nitrates are distributed unevenly, it is better to test two or three different spots. The device is calibrated for fresh products without heat treatment. You do not need to look up limits manually: the necessary data is already built into the menu. The result appears in 3-5 seconds. Depending on the model, Greentest can also measure background radiation and water hardness.

Water hardness

Water testing uses the same conductivity principle. Two measuring probes contact the water, and the device estimates the total level of dissolved salts.

Suitable for quick household water checks at home.
No need to buy separate test strips.
Available in Greentest 3 and Greentest ECO 6F.

Background radiation

In dosimeter mode, place the back side of the device near an object or surface for about a minute. During measurement, Greentest gives sound signals as particles are detected.

The screen displays the current background level.
Useful for checking food, objects, rooms or outdoor locations.
Available in Greentest ECO 4F and Greentest ECO 6F.

Frequently asked questions about Greentest

Short answers to the questions customers usually ask before choosing a nitrate tester or ecotester.

Do I need to look up nitrate limits myself?

No. Greentest already includes a product database and limit values. You select the product on the screen, perform the measurement and get a result with a color hint.

How long does a product check take?

After selecting the product and inserting the probe, the result appears in about 3 seconds. For correct measurement, follow the instructions shown on the screen.

Which model is best for home use?

If you only need nitrate checks, Greentest 2 is enough. If you also want water testing, consider Greentest 3 or ECO 6F. If a dosimeter is important, choose ECO 4F or ECO 6F.

What warranty applies to Greentest devices?

Greentest devices have an official 12-month warranty, and service support is provided by Sorbpolimer. Even in case of accidental mechanical screen damage, we can replace it. We provide both warranty and post-warranty service.

Why can a repeated test in the same puncture differ?

It is better not to insert the probe into the same puncture again: the product has already released juice, and contact with the pulp changes. For a repeated check, make a new puncture nearby. Some products also naturally show different values in different spots because nitrates are distributed unevenly.

Why can Greentest show high nitrate levels in homegrown vegetables?

Fresh vegetables and fruit immediately after harvesting often contain more nitrates than after several days of storage. Organic compost can also affect the value. Preparation matters too: after boiling, potatoes usually retain about 20-25% of nitrates.
